JCR Eurasia Rating reaffirms BKT for the 11th time in a row as AAA (Alb) on Long Term National Credit Rating

Tirana, Albania (22 July 2019) – JCR Eurasia Rating, during periodic review affirmed for the 11th time in a row Banka Kombëtare Tregtare’s (BKT) Long and Short Term National Ratings of ‘AAA (Alb)’ and ‘A-1+ (Alb)’, respectively with “Stable” outlooks on both ratings and its International Long Term FC and LC ratings as “BBB-Stable”, one notch higher than the principal operating country ceiling.

JCR has a track record of assign credit ratings for more than 200 foreign issuers and is the only Japanese rating agency that is also officially registered in the US and certified in the EU. AAA (Alb) stands for the highest possible evaluation within local market, showing that BKT is keeping its position in Albanian banking system which reflected in the widespread deposit base with a favorable term structure.

JCR-ER observed that, BKT is the largest bank in the Albanian banking sector and has a leading position in terms of core banking size indicators; assets, loans, investment securities, deposits and net profit. The leading factors in the differentiation of BKT from the Sector and in the affirmation of the Bank’s Long Term National Ratings as ‘AAA (Alb)’ are: the widespread deposit base with a favorable term structure; dominance in the market; supporting its credit profile; sound capitalization, despite material dividend pay-out in the last 3 years and benefits from the regulatory effect on its capital adequacy ratio; asset quality is positively decoupled from the system, with lower NPL ratios and high-margin collateralization; and large investment security portfolio. As a major player in the Sector and systemically important bank, BKT is considered to have the resources and tools to service its obligations without resorting to external support from shareholders.

In addition to the widespread branch network, the Bank facilitates the use of digital channels, including a call center, cash recycling ATMs and mobile and internet banking facilities. BKT promotes and continuously invests in fintech solutions with focus on increasing the products offered via online channels and customer satisfaction, thus preserving our heritage as the oldest bank in Albania and being innovative in the same time.
